New Restaurants Bringing Fresh Flavor to Vancouver
Vancouver continues to open a wide array of places throughout the city. This time around, new spots range widely. Options include a Hawaiian market-style restaurant and two exciting Mexican concepts. There’s also a brand-new Irish pub. Additionally, a Portland brewery has crossed the bridge with a taproom of its own.
Here are a few highlights of fantastic new places to check out in downtown Vancouver:
If you want to talk about a true success story, Husubis is it. Starting with a humble stand at the Vancouver Farmers Market—where they still serve loyal customers—they’ve grown into a brick-and-mortar shop specializing in poke, musubis, and other Hawaiian favorites.
The poke lineup goes beyond the classics of ahi tuna and salmon—you’ll often find mussels or shrimp on offer. Sides include Hawaiian macaroni salad, kimchi cucumbers, seaweed salad, and garlic edamame.
Their shop is open Friday through Monday during the summer. During the summer, you can find them at Camas Farmers Market on Wednesdays, then the East Vancouver Farmers Market on Thursdays. In the fall, you can generally find them on Thursdays, but it’s always good to check their website or their Instagram.
Downtown Vancouver has plenty of Mexican food options, but La Fiesta on Main stands out. Set in the former Main Event space, this restaurant brings a big menu and a big personality. The offerings lean Mexican and Tex-Mex, from sizzling plates to hearty combos.
Beyond the food, La Fiesta plans to host events like tequila tastings, and their drink menu features margaritas and cocktails that will not disappoint.
Vancouver has a knack for breathing new life into familiar spaces, and El Coyote is the latest example. Taking over the former Slow Fox Chili Parlor location, they’ve introduced a lineup of flavorful tacos and refreshing margaritas.
Don’t miss the fish taco, paired with either a Coyote Margarita or a Caliente Margarita—both worth a repeat order.
Breakside has long been a Portland favorite, and their expansion across the river feels like a natural fit. Their Vancouver taproom opened in the former Locust Cider space and was instantly welcomed by the community.
Expect their well-known rotation of craft beers, plus wine and cocktails. On the food side, the Cuban sandwich is a standout, and the shareable nachos are perfect for groups.
Sometimes the best additions are the ones you didn’t know you needed. Full Heart Irish Pub fills that role downtown, moving into the space once home to Niche Wine Bar (before it relocated to a larger venue).
The pub is backed by the owners of Brickhouse and manages to feel both modern and cozy. The drink list covers the Irish standards: Guinness, Kilkenny, and Smithwick’s on tap. The menu features hearty classics like cottage pie, Guinness stew, and corned beef.
It’s a smaller space, so don’t expect oversized plates—but what’s served is full of heart, flavor, and charm.
